In recognition of the wealth of historic buildings in Warrenton and their essential contribution to the character of the Town, the Board of Commissioners established the Historic District Commission to regulate certain changes to buildings and landscapes lying within the National Historic District certified in 1976. The purpose of this commission is to educate and assist owners of historic properties with appropriate renovations, and to assure that Warrenton's historic character is maintained. Exterior renovations of designated properties are required to obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness from the HDC before proceeding with any exterior or landscaping changes.
