Warrenton Police Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join our law enforcement team As an officer for our agency, you will play a crucial role in maintaining public safety and enforcing the laws and ordinances within our community. Your responsibilities will include general policing through patrols, maintaining public order and safety, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, investigating crimes and accidents, making arrests and issuing citations when necessary, gathering evidence and preparing reports for criminal investigations, providing assistance to the public, ensuring community engagement, and enforcing traffic laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:
- Protect life and property by the enforcement of laws & ordinances.
- Proactively patrol all areas in the jurisdiction.
- Respond to calls for police service.
- Exercise sound judgment in all interactions with citizens, victims, and suspects, including situations where force may be necessary.
- Prepare written reports and field notes of investigations and patrol activities.
- Conducts criminal and traffic investigations.
- Conduct interviews.
- Arrest and process criminals.
- Operate a law enforcement vehicle under emergency conditions day or night.
- Comprehend legal documents, including citations, affidavits, warrants, etc.
- Assist County Deputies upon request.
- Self-initiate traffic and criminal investigations.
- Take an active role in Community Oriented Policing.

PUBLIC UTILITY BILLING CLERK - PART TIME
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
General Statement of Duties
Performs clerical duties to support utility billing processes. Accepts bill payments.
Duties/Responsibilities
An employee in this class performs a variety of administrative support, records processing, data entry and related office duties. The range of work is generally routine in complexity. Work includes greeting the public and answering questions and providing information, typing or data entry work, and creating and maintaining accurate files and records. The employee is expected to have a good understanding of the work unit and/or the Town and its services to respond to inquiries, including some technical knowledge about departmental or Town policies and procedures. Customer service duties require tact and courtesy particularly when encountering sensitive or confidential matters. Work has moderate complexity and some variety in daily assignments or work activities. Work typically follows established procedures; precedent setting situations are referred to others. Specific oral and/or written instructions are available to apply to most work situations. Work includes the use of modern office technology including word processing, database, spread sheet and other software applications. Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and the quality and effectiveness of the work completed.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Performs a full scope of duties connected with billing and accounts receivables.
- Coordinates and prepares bills for utility customers by entering customer information into an automated billing program.
- Receives payments for utility bills, enters information (meter readings, rates, etc.) onto a computerized accounting system, verifies payments to funds received, and compiles financial data to support deposits.
- Accepts and posts payments from customers in person and through an online portal.
- Opens and closes accounts. Generates monthly reports of activity.
- Receives, greets and directs visitors as appropriate. Provides a variety of routine information to the general public. Provides backup to answering the phones.
- Responds to questions and customer complaints, referring difficult situations to higher level authority.
- Collects fees for other departments and Town committees.
- Performs secretarial/clerical duties such as mail, filing, scheduling and some basic correspondence.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the Town.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Consumer billing and accounts receivable functions.
General office functions and methods, including office equipment and computer software for accounting and word processing.
English grammar and composition, business and/or legal formats, and spelling, to prepare routine correspondence.
Ability to learn new and changing software.
Human relations skills to maintain harmony in a work setting and deal with customers in a way that reflects positively on the Town.
Ability to:
Maintain a complete set of accounting records and reports consistent with established procedures.
Interact with a wide range of contacts with courtesy and patience.
Requires the ability to learn and interpret Town codes, regulations as well as state laws, all within a reasonable time frame.
Perform all of the clerical and record keeping duties of the position including operation of computer software programs designed for customer and billing information.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands of Work
Requires sufficient hand eye coordination to recognize numbers, letters, and words. Requires sufficient strength to retrieve work materials from eye-level shelves and drawers. Requires the ability to use a typewriter style computer keyboard and 10-key for advanced data entry. Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone. Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
Education and Experience
The position requires a high school diploma plus at least two years of experience in a financial institution, cashier, accounts receivable or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Benefits/Pay
Starting pay is $16.00 hr. Permanent part-time employees earn 3 hours of vacation and 4 hours of sick leave per month.
