Leaf and Yard Debris Collection
Leaf and Yard Debris Pickup Schedule
1. Yard debris will be collected at each residence on an ongoing basis.  The goal is twice weekly but the specific schedule may vary because of unexpected equipment problems, manpower shortages, weather, holidays, etc.

2. Town residents must ensure that all grass clippings and pine straw are bagged (maximum bag size 30 gallons) and close to the curb so that debris does not block the street. Do not blow clippings into the street as they will eventually block storm drains.

3. Town residents who contract with an individual or firm to trim or remove trees or shrubs are responsible for removal of the debris.  It is strongly suggested that residents include debris removal in their contracts with these firms.

4. Town residents who perform their own tree or shrub maintenance will ensure that all debris placed for Town pickup is neatly piled; limbs must be cut to a maximum of 4 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter.  Any limbs or brush that does not conform will not be picked up and disposal will be the responsibility of the property owner.

5. The Town of Warrenton is now serving our citizens with year-round loose leaf pick-up. Please keep leaves contained to the roadside, not in the street or gutter.  During this time leaves and pine straw may be raked to the property owner’s side of the curb or street edge and will be picked up by the Town.  At all other times leaves must be bagged.  Branches must be separated from the leaves so that the Town leaf machine will be able to pick them up.  Leaves are not to be placed so as to block the street, storm drains or drainage ditches nor shall they be deposited on top of a water meter box as the water meter box lids represent a danger to the leaf machine and its operators.

6. Leaves, pine straw, pine cones, and all other small debris raked other than during leaf season must be bagged and placed on the property owner’s side of the curb or street for pickup.  If loose leaves are raked for pickup out of season the resident will be notified of the bagging requirement and will be allowed two weeks to do so.  After two weeks the Town will collect the leaves and charge the resident’s utility account a special service fee of $100.

7. All trees and shrubs must be trimmed so as to not block the view of the traffic on corner lots.  Also, trees which overhang a public walk must be trimmed so that no limb hangs lower than seven feet above the walk.  If the property owner does not voluntarily keep the trees properly trimmed the Town will trim the trees and bill the property owner.

8. It is the property owner’s responsibility to dispose of the following and similar items:
  • Building materials such as brick, sheet rock, lumber, tile, paint cans, etc.
  • Appliances such as air conditioners, water heaters, washers, etc.
  • Household items

9. The Town does not permit the burning of leaves or other materials.
